ONE of the UK’s most celebrated musicians and composers is heading to Liverpool for a rare one off performance on 24 October.
Kenny Clayton, who has famously worked with legendary Beatles producer George Martin as well as stars such as Shirley Bassey Petula Clark, Matt Monro, Robin Gibb, Charles Aznavor and Cilla Black, will be playing piano at the Hope Street Hotel as part of a new collaboration with Liverpool-based Brazilian jazz band Baiana.
The evening will celebrate the music of Brazil with a treasure chest of classic Bossa Novas, seductive sambas and Latin inspired arrangements of other well-known standards.
Kenny is also famed for his amazing showbiz anecdotes and between songs he has promised to lift the lid on some of the stories behind the songs as well as pay tribute to his long friendship with the late Beatles producer.
The pianist, who also scored several films including The Ragman’s Daughter and Pied Piper, divides his time between London and Menorca but is on a rare trip out of the capital as part of a new series of musical collaborations, including one with Liverpool-based Baiana, who have been wowing audiences with their sophisticated sounds.
Lauren Arnott of the Hope Street Hotel said: “To have a living legend like Kenny Clayton perform at the hotel is a real privilege and to have him perform with Baiana makes it even more exciting. It’s going to be an amazing evening of entertainment.”
