Baiana bask in radio success as single gets rush release

Baiana have rushed out the release of their new single after it was picked up by national radio.

The single SAUDADE SAMBA is currently on the JAZZ FM official playlist after being championed by DJ and producer Mark “Snowboy” Cotgrove.

This is the Liverpool band’s fourth single and the third of a trilogy of tracks produced by the famed DJ and musician.

SNOWBOY – who called the track “a thing of beauty” – will be producing their debut album which is due for release later in the year.

Originally the single was due for release in March but this has been brought forward following its success.

Snowboy said: “It’s been an honour to have been producing this amazing Liverpool-based Brazilian group and there will be more to come this year with the album.

“This is the third of three tracks I produced for them and it’s a Jazz dance banger. As ever, the group is led by the enigmatic Laura Doyle. I love her voice.”

The track, which is available on all major streaming platforms, also features the talents of brass section the HAGGIS HORNS leading figures on the UK funk scene who have played on tracks with stars such as AMY WINEHOUSE, ADELE and DURAN DURAN

Snowboy added: “When they finished the session the trumpet player, Malcolm Strachan, asked if he could go back in and put an impromptu solo on the outro. One take. That’s it. A thing of beauty!”

“Born in Liverpool but blessed in Rio” Baiana takes Brazil’s music scene for their pop inspiration. Singer LAURA DOYLE described the track as homage to the years she lived in the country. The Brazilian word Saudade is practically untranslatable but means a profound nostalgic longing for a person or place.

Laura said: “My time in Brazil was one of the happiest in my life and the place I truly fell in love with music. The song tells the story of that deep nostalgia, of a longing for lost love that only the word “Saudade” can describe”.
