Baiana pay tribute to Carmen Miranda at memory and film festival

Laura and Micky recently performed at a special event celebrating the power of film to help people live well with dementia.

The Cinema, Memory & Wellbeing Festival 2019, a  partnership project between Liverpool University and Plaza Community Cinema is the result of five years of research, led by the University of Liverpool’s Professor Lisa Shaw, in tandem with Professor Julia Hallam, into how film can trigger memories and assist in enhancing emotional wellbeing.

The festival closed with an afternoon of celebrations centred on the Brazilian film star Carmen Miranda and featured Laura and Micky performing some of her most-loved songs.

Laura said: “Music is such a special part of people’s lives and memories and I understand that people living with dementia can often clearly remember songs and tunes long after other memories are lost to them.

“To be able to play at such an important event as this and to see the vital work going on in our community to help people live well with dementia and other conditions is a real honour for Micky and myself.”
